Joining City of Folsom CERT
Completing the CERT Academy is the first step to becoming a member of Folsom CERT and part of the Folsom Fire Department's extended volunteer family. Students who complete the Academy, some additional online classes and pass a background check may be invited to become volunteer members of Folsom CERT.
Full details will be provided during the in-person portion of the Academy. The steps below are the additional pre-requisites and general overview of the process.

1. Complete the Folsom CERT Academy course.
2. Take the following additional online FEMA Independent Study, Red Cross and State courses:
FEMA IS-100 — Introduction to the Incident Command System
FEMA IS-200 — Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
FEMA IS-700 — An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
FEMA IS-800 — National Response Framework, An Introduction
FEMA IS-288 — The Role of Voluntary Organizations in Emergency Management
FEMA IS-505 — Religious and Cultural Literacy and Competency in Disaster
Red Cross “Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview” **
Red Cross Shelter Fundamentals **
CA SEMS G606 Online Course ***
3. Email contact@folsomcert.org to request an interview, and include copies of your certificates from the above classes.
4. Join us for an informal interview with Folsom CERT Leadership. We’ll talk about expectations, code-of-conduct, and what it means to be a member.
5. Be invited to join the team.
6. Fill out paperwork:
Submit to LiveScan background check by Folsom Police Department
Sign various HR forms as required by Folsom Fire Department (anti-harassment, anti-discrimination, etc. Basic stuff)
7. Complete Onboarding Session
8. Obtain uniform:
Order shirts from the Quartermaster — your first ‘class B’ uniform t-shirt is free!
Get a pair of black boots (must be able to take a shine)
Get a pair of black tactical/EMS pants
Get a black belt
Consider other uniform articles

Use the following values for the indicated fields:
Division: Disaster Function
Organization Type: Community Partner - Other
Organization Name: Folsom CERT
Region Name: Choose “N/A”
Then visit https://arc.csod.com/, log in with the credentials you created above, and search for the name of the course.

To register, visit https://csti-ca.csod.com/ and click the “register” button, then enter your information.
Log in with the credentials you created above. Click “Browse Training”, then on the left side of the screen click the “computer” icon under “Type”. Select the Standardized Emergency Management System Introduction course, then click “Launch”.
